International Animation Day 2007… A Week of Celebration!!!

28th October is globally celebrated as International Animation Day, in commemoration of the first public performance of Emile Reynaud’s Theatre Optique at the Grevin Museum in Paris in 1892.

ASIFA India kicks of the series of events from Mumbai on the 21st of October , following it up in Pune on the 24th and across 8 Indian cities on the 28th of October.

25th to 27th October will see the very 1st International Student Animation Festival - CHITRAKATHA 2007 organized by the National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad. You will find details of the even, programme schedules and more in our previous blog posts.

International Animation Day ‘07 : ASIFA India’s Mumbai Celebrations

IAD 07 in Mumbai will be a day long celebration!

Arts Mela: 11:00am-6:00pm

The doors will open at 10:30am at which time the “Arts Mela” begin. The Mela (or Fair) is organized in a non-linear fashion giving the attendees the freedom to attend and participate in whatever they choose throughout the floor.

About “International Animation Day”

In 2002, ASIFA, the International Animated Film Association, launched a global event to celebrate the art of animation. October 28th was proclaimed as International Animation Day (IAD), commemorating the first public performance of Emile Reynaud’s Theatre Optique at the Grevin Museum in Paris in 1892.

Each year, on 28th October, ASIFA groups around the world celebrate International Animation Day. In 2005, 37 different countries in all the continents celebrated this day. The various ASIFA groups celebrate IAD by screening animated films, organizing workshops, exhibiting artwork and stills, providing technical demonstrations, and helping to promote the art of animation.

IAD07In India, IAD has been celebrated every year since 2002 in various cities around the country. What started out as a small celebration has now blossomed into a must-attend event for all Indian artists and has the support and sponsorship of multiple organizations throughout India. In the year 2006, IAD was celebrated across 8 cities in India simultaneously, with over 3000+ people participating. The chapter also recognizes the best animation in India through the ASIFA India Awards of Excellence. In addition to this ASIFA India also extends its support to other community building events.

IAD ‘07 CELEBRATIONS:

This year Asifa India will take the celebrations to a much larger scale. Not just focussing on having bigger events in Mumbai but also in cities like Hyderabad, Pune and Delhi and many more.

28th October: all across the country, including Hyderabad, Delhi, Chennai, Bangalore, Kochi, Kolkata, Ahmedabad and Thiruvananthapuram.

AWARDS OF EXCELLENCE:

awards of excellenceThe ASIFA India Awards of Excellence is an annual awards ceremony established in 2002 to recognize and celebrate the best in Indian animation. There is a national call for entries where animation films for both student and professional categories are solicited. The deadline for entries is usually the first week of October. There has been an overwhelming response from around the country with many students and professionals submitting their work for the Awards. The submissions are then judged by a distinguished panel of artists and they selected the films worthy of the “ASIFA India Award of Excellence” trophy.

The awards ceremony was the highlight of International Animation Day 06 and was celebrated in the evening at the Main Auditorium, NCPA, Mumbai, in 2006. Being one of the most awaited Awards ceremony of the country, in 2007, Mumbai will once again host the event.

Adventures in Writing Animation - workshop by Greg Acuna organized by TASI

The Animation Society of India has organized a five hour seminar meant to introduce students to writing scripts for various forms of animation. The class, held by Greg Acuna (Director - Pala Flicks), covers the screenwriting process from conception to completion including analysis of types of scripts, brainstorming techniques, character creation, plot development, screenplay format and marketing. The course is interactive with many exercises to aid in the learning process.
