CGTExpo 2008 - A successful start!
After spending two full days at the CGTExpo 2008, I must say the experience was unique. Hundreds of volunteers from all over the country, the CGTantra team, the Nine team, the participants and the supporters, all put in their best to make the event a truly successful one.
The planning was perfect, arrangements flawless and the least possible glitches ensured that everyone had a lot of fun and went back having gained something. Newbies, students, job-seekers, curious spectators, anxious parents of would-be animation students, were all milling around together in the two main halls and two smaller ones.
The Golden Cursor Awards 2008 : The Complete Coverage

At the ceremony on Thursday night, when AnimationXpress co-founder Anand Gurnani was asked,”How important is it to write about animation?” he said that a few years ago, many creative people would have loved to pursue a career in animation but due to parental pressure settled for more secure ‘jobs’ in companies and banks. Luckily, today times have changed. The Indian animation industry has seen an astounding growth and there are several lucrative career options in the field of animation, VFX and gaming. If we talk about it and spread the word, parents will be more open to allowing their kids to follow their dreams and become the future of Indian animation.
So here we are, writing about animation and sharing with our readers the events of the first ever Golden Cursor Awards for Excellence in Animation. Get all the details right here on the All About Animation Blog.
TASI event : Music for Animation by Tapas Relia
This insightful workshop was held on 23rd Feb. 2008, 2:00 pm at the IDC Auditorium, IIT Campus in Powai, Mumbai.
The response was overwhelming and the verdict at the end of this session on Composing and Arranging Music and Sound for Animation , conducted by Music Director Tapas Relia was a thumbs up! Three cheers for the TASI team!
The session was extremely informative and everyone present thoroughly enjoyed themselves as Tapas took the audience through the process of composing music. Tapas was accompanied by Sound Engineer/Designer Gaurav Chopra who also shared some interesting insights.
The session was kicked of with a brief introduction by Tapas.
“I have been composing and producing music for visuals for the last 7-8 years. ‘Producing’ does not mean financing but composing the basic melody, recording the instruments, arranging tracks etc.
TASI’s “Animation For Those Who Cannot Draw!”
With a fabulous turnout of 250 plus people, the TASI workshop titled “Animation for those who cannot draw!”, began on all the right notes! The TASI team had planned this workshop with the intention of initiating a new outlook towards animation and the encouraging response was proof enough that there are many who nurture a desire to animate but fear their own lack of drawing skills. The 5 hour session was held on 19th Jan. at Mumbai Educational Trust (MET) in Bandra, the heart of Mumbai city with registrations open students, professionals and novices alike. Sanjiv Waeerkar, Creative Director, UTV, who conducted this interactive workshop is also a former TASI committee member.
ASIFA CG Meetup 2nd Anniversary event in Mumbai
A big thank you to Ritesh Reddy for sending us this animated, eye-witness report on the 2nd Anniversary Celebration of the ASIFA CG Meetup that took place on the 20th of Jan.
“The long snaky queue outside K.C. College was evidence of Asifa’s regular CG Meetups. The fact that it was the 2nd Anniversary was the icing on the cake. The counter at the entrance handed out feedback forms, raffle tickets and IAD 2006 flyers? Recycling surplus might be a more eco-friendly solution though. The slideshow on the projector displayed pictures of past IAD melas evoking nostalgia and keeping the crowd entertained. The crowds poured in and Bob Dylan decided to give an impromptu rendition. His performance was cut short however by a case of laryngitis.”

Will Kutti Chetan and Friends dethrone our Screen Gods?
At All About Animation, we are constantly striving to promote original Indian animation. Though we have seen that in the last two years, films based on Indian mythological characters like Hanuman, Krishna and Ganesha have been successful and plenty, it is indeed heartening to see a slew of fresh and original animated films finally coming out of our Indian studios. It has been our aim to encourage such ventures and promote them through our blog, website and e-magazine. In this first edition of our series on upcoming original animated features, let us take a look at “Kutti Chetan and Friends” by DREAMS.
Hyderabad-based DREAMS or Deepak Raj Entertainment And Multimedia Solutions Pvt. Ltd. was established only recently in July 2007 by Deepak Subhash Jadhav and V. Rajeshwar Rao. The studio is currently working on 3 projects - Kutti Chetan and Friends, Inside Me and The Trap. Their debut animated feature, Kutti Chetan and Friends, is already past the pre-production stage and into production. The film is slated for release in June 2008.
