There are 2 events happening in Mumbai today.
TASI is conducting a very interesting workshop on MUSIC FOR ANIMATION at the IDC Auditorium, IDC, IIT Powai (2 pm onwards). Even if you have not pre-registered, you can come to the venue at 1:30 pm and register yourself. The workshop, conducted by Tapas Relia, is a one-of-its-kind one for animation. Most workshops are focussed on CG and allied topics. Sound and music are extremely crucial to any film, let alone an animated one. It influences the mood of the film. In animation, it even guides the audiences. There is a lot to study and understand about this often ignored aspect of animation. Music composition for animation is an upcoming field and a viable career option for the musically inclined.

Panel Comix launches Happy Days and Little Pandavas Comic.

IG Fun LLC, the international publishing arm of Indiagames Ltd, India’s benchmark online and mobile games company; today announced it will bring BioShock, one of the most awarded PC & Console games in the history of gaming, on the mobile platform. DQ Entertainment Limited & Percept Picture Company enter a three animation film co-production MoU.

Recognizing the potential and acute need for high end animated Indian films in Indian animation industry, DQ Entertainment (DQE) and Percept Picture Company (PPC) proudly announced their 3 animation co-production memorandum of understanding signed recently. The films are slated for 2009-2010 release and will be in the genres - Mythology, Super Hero, Bollywoodish and Animal Kingdom.

It also allows both companies to manage their workflows more efficiently between Warner Bros. MPI in Burbank, and Prime Focus’s facilities throughout multiple locations in India and London as well as in New York, Vancouver, Winnipeg and Los Angeles.

Graphiti’s Workshop: “Back To Bones - Creating a Production Rig”
Graphiti School of Animation, the education unit of Graphiti Multimedia Pvt. Ltd., is organizing a free workshop for animation professionals and students on how to create a Production Rig.

Eligibility: Should be an animation student from an institute or should be working as an animation professional.
Prerequisite: Should have knowledge of basic rigging in MAYA
Workshop Details: The Instructor shall use a production rig and demonstrate the making of that rig. Topics like IK/FK switch, deformers, pelvis stretch, utilities etc will be discussed. The aim is to share a lot of conceptual knowledge and display tool-oriented approaches to making a rig.
The workshop is free of cost.
Registration Process: The seats are limited to 20 in each batch. In case of more registrations, two batches shall be run, one after the other.

20 years of NID : Presentation by Binita Desai at the Chitrakatha 2007 Festival
With just 7 days left now for the launch of the website, we are getting experts on the subject of animation to write for us as well.
On the first day of the Chitrakatha Festival at NID, there was a special presentation by Binita Desai, Associate Professor, Animation Designer, DAIICT, Gandhinagar, to commemorate the completion of 20 years by the animation department at NID. She has generously shared the transcript of the presentation for our readers.
A wonderful selection of films by students through the years was screened after Binita’s compelling talk on the origin of the animation department at NID and all the people that made it possible. Here is a list of the films that were screened followed by the transcript of Binita’s presentation.
Interview with Chaitanya Chinchlikar, Whistling Woods International
Every forum discusses the problems faced by the Indian animation industry in terms of quality human resources. It is openly acknowledged as well that the root of the problem lies in our animation education system. Yet, there is no conclusive action taken and studios and institutes keep pointing fingers at one another.
There is light at the end of the tunnel though. Whistling Woods International Institute for Film, Television and Media Arts seems to have got its fundamentals right with wise planning and a large investment. We caught up with Chaitanya Chinchlikar, Marketing Manager, WWI, and asked him to elaborate on the points that he had brought up during the panel discussion on human resources at the NASSCOM Animation & Gaming Summit.
Chitrakatha Day 2 : Spanish Animation Scene
Spanish Animation Scene - a selection of recent, short animation films.

The aim of this presentation was to showcase simple to complex Spanish films, some made by native Spanish animators living outside Spain and the others by non-Spanish animators living in Spain. Alfred put it succinctly - “We are not Spanish people”, he said. “We are people from the animation world”.
The showcase was also about the way that the films are made. About how people from a small industry and a small world make films. The power of the idea is
